Walking Tours & Events

Explore our campus arboretum and learn about our trees, plants, and wildlife through our walking tours and events. Below you can see our upcoming and past events.

Dr. Sara Wright offers monthly guided arboretum walking tours for up to 30 attendees (see registration links below). All are welcome – students, faculty, administrators, staff, alumni, retirees, and the general public!

Groups of 15-30 can email wrights@rowan.edu to request additional tour dates at least one week in advance. In fall 2024, Dr. Wright is generally available Monday-Friday from 3:30-5 pm and will consider weekend tours for external and public groups or special occasions.

Over the next year, our team plans to create physical and digital resources that enable self-guided arboretum tours.

BioBlitz Walking Tour: Historic Centennial Trees

Take a break, stretch your legs, and join Sara Wright from the Rowan Biological & Biomedical Sciences Department for an immersive 75-minute walking tour featuring Rowan’s magnificent campus trees. This tour will be a special Centennial edition in honor of Arbor Day. Dr. Wright will recreate a previous tour made by students and faculty in the late 1960s. Attendees will visit and learn about some of the oldest and largest trees on campus – our Centennial trees!

BioBlitz is a campus-wide event that records as much flora and fauna as possible to take a snapshot of the campus biodiversity. The data collected will help our Facilities make improvements to campus by better understanding the invasive and native species that live here. Students and researchers can also use the data to understand the biodiversity of our campus habitat better.

Join the very first collaborative tour between the Rowan University Art Gallery & Museum and Sara Wright from the Biological & Biomedical Sciences Department for a 75-minute tree-viewing walking tour around the Glassboro campus. Materials from some of the tree species we will visit inspired sculptures made by artist Jack Larimore, which you will be able to view at the end of our walking tour inside the Rowan University Art Gallery & Museum.
